Color and Pattern: Sunny is a bay dun fewspot stallion (homozygous for leopard complex, heterozygous for leopard pattern - LP/LP, PATN-1/patn-1).  He is DNA tested heterozygous black/extension and homozygous bay/agouti (E/e, A/A) and is progeny proven to be dun (has a dun sire also).  He has proven himself to be a 100% color/characteristic producer, not just by his coat pattern but by his progeny.

Gait: Sunny is easy gaited, usually performing a running walk and sometimes a fox trot in addition to the standard walk, trot, canter, and gallop.  A large number of his foals have inherited his easy gaits.

Personality: He is very gentle and sweet, even a bit shy with strangers.  Our 4-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son love to take pony rides on Sunny in the pasture, down the road, and all around the farm. He is good in a variety of herd groupings - he is kept with the expecting mares until one foals and then he is moved to a neighboring pasture to avoid breeding on a foal heat, he is good while pasturing with the mares he is breeding, and he has lived off and on over the years with stallions and geldings - he spent October 2008 to the present living with our gelding Bo and Sunny's intact 2007 colt Red with no problem at all!

Breeders and Progeny: Sunny was bred by Kyle and Sue Magnuson at 2KS NorthStar in Garvin, MN; we have photos of Sunny's past foals.  Of his past 18 foals, he has sired 9 colts and 9 fillies, with all patterns represented and with the colors being bays, seal browns/dark bays, bay duns, chestnuts, and red dun.  Sunny obviously is capable of siring big, bold color.  Also see the brag page on NorthStar Casper for more information on this fabulous young stallion, sired by Sunny!  We hope to add another brag page soon for NorthStar Ladybug, a Sunny daughter who is being trained for endurance riding and cowboy mounted shooting! Other of his progeny are used as family riding mounts and as breeding stock.

Pedigree: His pedigree includes Ferras (11x), Mansfield's Comanche (8x), Starbuck Leopard (7x), Morgan's Leopard (3x), Navajo's Candy (2x), Sundance (2x), Simcoe's Sarcee, Simcoe's Chinook,  Spotted Eagle, Revel Jr., Painter's Marvel, Red Eagle, Bambi E, High Spot, Bright Eyes Brother, Buttons B, Double Six Domino, Cooterville Norrell's Little Red, and Toby I.

Video: We now have two short video clips for you to see Sunny's movement, although both are at a gallop.  We are continuing to try to catch him shuffling and will post shuffling video as soon as possible.   Click here for links to video clips of Sunny galloping to the left and to the right.  Note: he is galloping in a one acre pasture in 4 to 6 inches of snow.

How about putting some spots in your pasture?
