Weaning is usually done at 4 to 4 1/2 months of age, and the foals will be handled from birth and taught all the basics to set them up for success with their new people. Registrations with IPAA and ApHC are also included in the price, although transfer costs are not included. All foal sales at any age include a folder of all records pertinent to the foal: pedigree, pictures, registrations and registration applications, and vet/vaccination records. One-third of the sale price is required as a deposit, and no foal may leave our farm until he/she is paid in full.
SMF Howling on a Rock, barn name Rocky
born June 6, 2011
We thought that the cross between CTR Eagles Angelica and Howling Wind GHR would be great, and wow were we ever right! Slick and Howl both have qualities seen in Siri Sheik and Money Creek's Rockledge - found uncommonly close in their pedigrees - and it came shining through in Rocky, who already has some of the same qualities seen in old photos of those two famous horses when they were foals-at-side. If you are looking for horses with Ghostwind lines, you won't get much closer to the source than Rocky, and he has the look of a Ghostwind stallion as a bonus!
Rocky is now a couple weeks old, has figured out those legs, and is just as athletic and gorgeous as we expected! This colt is showing the potential to be a great stallion prospect, combinging athletic ability, looks, mind, and pedigree. We expect him to mature in a nice, moderate 15 hands.
Rocky is IPAA F4 eligible and is over 92% IPAA gene pool blood. He's also ApHC and FAHR eligible. He is a black fewspot who will likely look exactly as he does now when he is mature and if kept as a stallion will be able to sire foals with appaloosa characteristics no matter the mare and is very possibly homozygous for PATN-1, the gene responsible for leopard patterning.
Add together his conformation, mind, pedigree, genetics, and the Ghostwind and Don LaLonde history, and Rocky is incredibly full of potential!
This stallion prospect is being retained for our own program but is for sale if some breeding rights may be retained.
This video at age 3 weeks shows his curiosity and a little movement (click on the link for the video while we try to get it embedded below!). Once our heat wave is done, we'll be trying to catch his movement on video too!
SMF Legacy of a Wind, barn name Legs
born June 6, 2011
When we bred BBR Chinootkas Lady to Howling Wind GHR, we hoped to combine the energy, suspension, and animation of Howl's gaits and the fluid grace and reach of Lady's gaits while maintaining the really nice personality each one has. Guess what! We did it! Legs hit the ground running, and when we saw him in daylight, his great bone, mastery of his legs, and beautiful conformation were surpassed only by his incredibly friendly and inquisitive nature! At two weeks old, he continues to blow us away with his build, his movement, and his personality - this is a vocal colt who whinnies for our kids when they leave the pasture and who lets the kids hug him and hang on him like he's an enormous dog. Lady and Howl are both stunning movers, and Legs is showing that he is combining Lady's reach with Howl's animation and presence, making him a joy to watch!
Legs' pedigree is phenomenal and combines great horses from classic lines from many different parts of the United States, many of whom are no longer alive or breeding, such Tobys Nootka, Super Smoke's Charger, Chinootka Bay, and the whole Garvin Height's program featuring some Money Creek Ranch lines. Add in the close ancestry of Siri Sheik, Money Creek's Rockledge, Super Smoke's Charger, Toby's Nootka, and Go Bay Go, and this is an incredible pedigree!
Legs is IPAA F4 eligible with over 96% IPAA gene pool blood, and he is ApHC and FAHR eligible too. He is a strawberry roan leopard (obviously chestnut, DNA tested to be heterozygous for classic roan), with the classic roan temporarily suppressing his leopard patterning, so as he matures, he'll develop chestnut/strawberry roan spots all through that white he's showing now. He has a smattering of spots across his topline, and his tail has ripples of red and white - it's a strawberries and cream tail! Legs will retain the red on his lower legs and his ears and likely have some red mixed in with the white in his mane and tail plus have spots all over. Add that to his movement and conformation, and he'll be a show-stopper, and add it all to his A+ personality, and he'll be the horse you can't bear to part with!
for sale $4,000 as a stallion, negotiable as a gelding
This video of Legs at 3-weeks-old doesn't showcase his beautiful movement (click on the link until we can get it embedded below!), but it does show his great personality! For height reference, CJ is 4 feet tall.
