Foals
SMF Serendipity, barn name Sara
born July 8, 2011

Navajo Coups and NorthStar Bright Sun have presented us with a stunning bay dun leopard purebred filly, and we couldn't be more pleased with her! This is the third foal from this pair, and every time they come together, it's pure magic. Leggy, very possibly easy gaited, nice hip, short coupled, very nice chest, lovely head, the list of attributes goes on and on. To wrap up that beautiful body, Sara is covered in a loud leopard pattern of huge, dripping spots in a warm caramel color with the silvery grey spots on her legs that will mature to blackspots. Add in a caramel, white, and black mane and tail and a crescent moon shaped star, and she's quite simply a stunner!

SMF Legacy of a Wind, barn name Legs
born June 6, 2011

When we bred BBR Chinootkas Lady to Howling Wind GHR, we hoped to combine the energy, suspension, and animation of Howl's gaits and the fluid grace and reach of Lady's gaits while maintaining the really nice personality each one has. Guess what! We did it! Legs hit the ground running, and when we saw him in daylight, his great bone, mastery of his legs, and beautiful conformation were surpassed only by his incredibly friendly and inquisitive nature! Lady and Howl are both stunning movers, and at only hours old, Legs was showing that he might just continue the family tradition!

Legs' pedigree is phenomenal and combines great horses from classic lines from many different parts of the United States, many of whom are no longer alive or breeding, such Tobys Nootka, Super Smoke's Charger, Chinootka Bay, and the whole Garvin Height's program featuring some Money Creek Ranch lines. Add in the close ancestry of Siri Sheik, Money Creek's Rockledge, Super Smoke's Charger, Toby's Nootka, and Go Bay Go, and this is an incredible pedigree!

Legs is IPAA F4 eligible with over 96% IPAA gene pool blood, and he is ApHC and FAHR eligible too. We suspect that he is chestnut with classic roan that is temporarily suppressing his leopard patterning (and the hair sample has already been sent to UC Davis for testing!), so as he matures, he'll develop chestnut/strawberry roan spots all through that white he's showing now. He has a smattering of spots across his topline, and his tail has ripples of red and white - it's a strawberries and cream tail! Legs will retain the red on his lower legs and his ears and likely have some red mixed in with the white in his mane and tail plus have spots all over. Add that to his movement and conformation, and he'll be a show-stopper, and add it all to his A+ personality, and he'll be the horse you can't bear to part with!

SMF Howling on a Rock, barn name Rocky
born June 6, 2011

We thought that the cross between CTR Eagles Angelica and Howling Wind GHR would be great, and wow were we ever right! Slick and Howl both have qualities seen in Siri Sheik and Money Creek's Rockledge - found uncommonly close in their pedigrees - and it came shining through in Rocky, who already has some of the same qualities seen in old photos of those two famous horses when they were foals-at-side. If you are looking for horses with Ghostwind lines, you won't get much closer to the source than Rocky, and he has the look of a Ghostwind stallion as a bonus!

Rocky is only a day old, and we can already tell you that he has fabulous conformation and a great mind. Steady, curious without being reckless, intelligent, and sweet are all words that describe Rocky at only a few hours old. His movement should be excellent once he figures out how those super long legs of his work too, and we expect him to mature in a nice 15 hand range.

Rocky is IPAA F4 eligible and is over 92% IPAA gene pool blood. He's also ApHC and FAHR eligible. He is a black fewspot who will likely look exactly as he does now when he is mature and if kept as a stallion will be able to sire foals with appaloosa characteristics no matter the mare and is very possibly homozygous for PATN-1, the gene responsible for leopard patterning.

Add together his conformation, mind, pedigree, genetics, and the Ghostwind and Don LaLonde history, and Rocky is incredibly full of potential!

barn name Chance
born June 16, 2011

When we bred Chinooks Snow Princess to Howling Wind GHR we aimed to produce a foal with smooth as silk gaits and great bone along with a gentle personality and a steadiness that would make the foal a great horse to work with. We got it! It was touch and go, though, as Chance had a leg bent backward at foaling, and Snow required a bit of help. Once he was repositioned, Snow delivered like a champ, and we were amazed by the fighting spirit displayed by Chance as he not only fought to live but then fought to do succeed at everything - he is the only foal we've ever seen who bounced right back up after each try at standing without ever resting, just trying again and again until he got it right!

Chance has a classic build and a old-style pedigree. His movement so far has been get up and go go go, but we wouldn't be surprised at all if he shows some easy gait, likely a running walk, fairly soon. He is a black snowcap. We don't think that his distinctive speckling and streaking is from classic roan, as his dam displayed the same markings on her neck, face, and chest at birth. She has roaned very little, so if Chance is like his mama, he might just look much like he does now when he's all grown up. Wow, what a head turner he will be with his movement and his pattern! His personality should be top notch too, as he is bold and inquisitive with a gleam of intelligence in those big brown eyes!

SMF Secret Jackpot, barn name Jack
born June 18, 2011

LVR Shady Lady and Howling Wind GHR have brought togther through their grandparents four highly respected programs that no longer exist for a uniquely bred foal: Pratt and Ulrich breeding from Shady and Don LaLonde and Garvin Heights breeding from Howl. Jack is showing that all of that breeding planning and effort pays off, as he shows off his gorgeous conformation, beautiful head, intelligence, and bold movement! To add a little extra excitement to Jack, Shady decided to surprise us with himearly on a Saturday morning. We'd had quite the adventure helping to deliver Chance on Thursday night, so we looked Shady over very carefullyFriday night, saw that she had no change from her appearance and behavior over the last few days, and went to bed. Saturday morning's dawn revealed that Shady had a secret!

Jack at first glance looked to be a bay noncharacteristic colt with two tiny socks and a small star, but when the rain finally ended and he dried off, we could see that he has a scattering of white hairs through his coat, making him possibly bay roan (classic roan). Another day passed, and we spotted possible sclera. There's no sign of mottled skin or striped hooves, but we're not ruling out the possibility that Jack is characteristic only. So either he's noncharacteristic, will show classic roan, and would be a great cross for LP/LP mares, or he's characteristic only and will have some huge and interesting changes in the coming years as he roans for both classic and appaloosa, possibly revealing spots as well. Add in his bold movement and gorgeous build along with his intelligence and brave nature, and he'll be a fabulous example of Appaloosas!

SOLD to J-M Ranch in Kentucky! Congratulations!
